The IRS requires every preparer to have a written security plan. Verafile builds yours, keeps it current, and verifies your clients are who they say they are — before a fraudulent return goes out under your PTIN.
Free WISP readiness checklist when you join. No card, no spam.
Compliance software tells you what to do. Fraud tools tell you when it's too late. Verafile does both, built specifically for how a tax practice actually runs.
Answer plain questions, get a complete Written Information Security Plan. Verafile updates it annually and hands you audit-ready proof at PTIN renewal.
Scan an ID, take a live selfie. Verafile checks the document is real, the barcode matches the print, and the face matches the ID — catching stolen and manufactured identities.
Flag SSNs already used this season, name and ID mismatches, and synthetic identity signals — while there's still time to stop the return.
Not a $49 template you fill in and forget. A living plan that reflects your actual practice, updates every year, and produces the documentation regulators and insurers ask for.
That's the gap. A real license belonging to someone else looks perfect — until you ask the person holding it to prove they're the one in the photo.
Verafile layers the checks so a fraudster has to beat all of them at once: document authentication, a barcode cross-check that catches programmed fakes, a live face match, and a data check against known fraud signals.
And when something doesn't add up, you decide. Verafile flags it and shows you why — it doesn't quietly reject your client.

If you have a PTIN and prepare returns, yes. The FTC Safeguards Rule treats tax preparers as financial institutions, and there's no exemption for solo or seasonal practices. PTIN renewal now asks you to confirm you have one.
A template is a starting point, not a program. The rule expects a plan that reflects your actual practice, gets reviewed annually, and comes with documented training and an incident response plan. Verafile keeps all of that current instead of leaving a PDF in a drawer.
It catches far more than a glance across the desk can — including programmed fakes where the barcode doesn't match the printed data. No verification is perfect, so anything ambiguous gets flagged for your review rather than silently passed.
You set the retention period, and Verafile deletes the images automatically when it expires. Your proof of verification — date, method, result, signed consent — stays on file for your audit trail.
We're building now and working with a small group of preparers to get it right. Join the waitlist and you'll be first in, at founding pricing.
